Transportation Alternatives

Here are a few suggestions to get around Kauai.
 
Dollar Rent A Car Taxicab Bus Thumb a ride
The K.K. Bed & Bath has an agreement with Dollar Rent A Car.  I will reduce your room rate by an amount equal to 5% of the car's base rate if you use my Agency number (44519) when making the reservation.  From my Dollar web page, enter the daily rate of the car into the box below and hit 'Enter'.

Dollar will combine weekly and daily rates to give you the best deal depending on the length of your rental.  The final calculation of your room rate reduction will be determined when you arrive.  You will have to show me the pink receipt you got from them so I can see the base rate they charged.

There are about 10 companies you can call for taxicab pickup at the Lihue Airport.  The K.K. Bed & Bath is just over 8 miles from the airport and will cost at least $17 to get here in Kapaa Town.  The companies can be called for free from the visitors information booth just outside the airport baggage claim.

Recommendation:
Some of my guests have had good experiences with Akiko's Taxi: 651-9117 (cell), 822-7588 (local, Kapaa), 1-877-722-7588 (toll free).  Do NOT call Scotty's Taxi.
The Kauai County's bus system costs $1.50 per ride.  Be forewarned that (a) it does NOT go everywhere on Kauai; (b) you are NOT allowed to bring large bags, luggage or backpacks on board; and (c) it does NOT operate on Sundays. Otherwise, you could try to hitchhike along the roads and highways to your destinations.  It may take you up to an hour for someone to stop.  Most will be nice, some are scarey and you'll be really lucky if they go as far as where you want to end up.  You should also be prepared to stand in the rain while waiting.  Personally, I don't pick anyone up...
